My name is Ed Lilley, and I am the Minister to Students here at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church.  I want to give you a brief introduction and some background on myself first, then I would like to share with you the vision of youth and family ministry we are currently developing here at Ivy Memorial, and finally introduce you to our ministry team.

I was born and raised in Hampton, Virginia for the first 28 years of my life.  God continually blessed me as I grew up with a wonderful church and youth group experience.  My undergraduate degree was in music (voice) at Christopher Newport University, and my Seminary studies have been at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina.  I have been blessed to have served churches in Virginia for nine years, in Maryland for almost five years, and have returned to Virginia in May of 2004.  God has also spoiled me the last ten years with a wonderful wife by the name of Robin.

That is enough of me, now lets talk about how God is working in the lives of our students.  Although the verse listed above is one of many favorites, the student ministry here is based upon Acts 2:41-47 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17.  I challenge you to read those passages of Scripture and discover what many others have discovered as the purpose of the church's existence.  The purposes that are taken from that Scripture are fellowship, worship, discipleship, evangelism, and ministry.  Often time's churches are very good at the fellowship aspect and fail to really provide a balanced and effective ministry in those other areas.  It is our/files/pics of staff/acteen sleep over 004_Resized_151x113.jpg goal to maintain a balanced ministry in all five areas of ministry.  To view the current activities click onto our calendar page to find the latest announcements, events, view pictures, prayer request, etc.

It is my hope that through worship, Bible study, intentional witnessing opportunities, camps, ministry with local non-prophet organizations, Sunday school, FUN-raisers, prayer, play, visitation, local mission trips, foreign mission trips, etc. that we will win all of Hampton, one person at a time to Jesus Christ.  My prayer is that you will come and join us in our march to be a Great Commission Student Ministry.

Youth Council Chair -- Mrs. Sharon is our Youth Council chairperson.  Sharon has volunteered off and on with the students for 10 years now teaching middle school Sunday school, chaperoning countless trips, etc.  Sharon is an interior designer and enjoys puzzles, reading, sewing, gardening, and all things artsy.  Sharon claims to know a lot of useless trivia so when you see her in the halls of the church try stumping her with some random questions (i.e. What would you do if your grill burped?).

High School Sunday School Teacher -- Gabe Sava...coming soon to a stage near you!

/files/pics of staff/pics for staff/shannon and lynn again.jpgOur Middle School Sunday School Teachers -- Lynn and Shannon Walker were both fortunate to have grown up in church, and have Christians parents.  They both accepted Jesus as their Savior before they were 10 years old.  Lynn grew up in Martinsville and Shannon grew up in Hampton.   Shannon began playing the piano when she was 3 years old, and became a church pianist when she was 13 years old. She works full-time at NASA LaRC, where she met her husband, Michael “Lynn” Walker.  Lynn has been a civil servant for the government for 26 years and currently works as a mechanical engineering technician in the 8 foot high temperature tunnel.  They were married at Ivy on 8/23/03...WOOT!  Together, they have 4 children ranging in ages from 13 years old to 25 years old, and have 3 grandchildren.  They enjoy spending time with family (including their dog), friends, and enjoy ballroom dancing as well as vacation get-aways.  They have also been heavily involved with the children’s ministries (Awana, Royal Ambassadors, Sunday School teaching, Deacon, Choir, etc.).

/files/pics of staff/p1030276_Resized_300x225.jpgMusic Minister -- John Thompson was blessed with a wonderful youth ministry experience through his teen years just up the road from here in Richmond.  Before coming to serve at Ivy, he already seemed like family as he married his college sweetheart and ex-Ivy student and summer intern Helen.  John is a BIG Redskin football fan, but don't hold that against him.  He is a decent bowler, has a beautiful tenor voice, and loves to make Chipotle and Starbucks runs with the youth pastor!
